Rediscovering Historic Vicksburg
Meshea Crysup, along with her husband and "furry daughter", moved to Vicksburg in 2014. A life-long history enthusiast, she was excited about this opportunity to further develop that passion.
With a background in healthcare, her experience includes Long Term Care consulting and nursing administration, public speaking, adult education and staff development.
Also an author, blogger, and web master, she is happy to be using her skillset to help promote:
Vicksburg Civil War Roundtable
Baer House Inn
Other local history-based businesses, groups, organizations, as well as history-relalted events and individuals involved in the "business of History".
Meshea blogs and speaks openly about having fibromyalgia. She is especially thankful to Morgan Gates for agreeing to co-found Rediscovering Historic Vicksburg, because she could not be pursuing this passion without his partnership and support.
The Turning Point
Vicksburg has been called all of this and more!
The “First", the “Richest”, the “Most Important”, and the “Highest” are superlatives once oft used to describe the city. Full of history, beauty, battlefields and monuments, all who happen to visit the city go away impressed. A century ago everyone-who-was-anyone knew Vicksburg! While historic cities around the world are capitalizing on their past even as they stride toward the future, in the mind of today’s general public, Vicksburg has allowed itself to slip into obscurity—almost.
Rediscovering Historic Vicksburg wants to help reverse that trend and we invite you to join us as we look at Vicksburg though two unique lenses. One is that of Meshea Crysup an avid lover of history but a newcomer to Vicksburg. The other is that of Morgan Gates, a historian and native of the area. Together, these “Partners-in-Time” look at Vicksburg through the eyes of the present and the past.
Morgan Gates is a life long resident of the historic city of Vicksburg. A retired educator from the Vicksburg-Warren School District, he holds Master’s degrees in History and Education. As a Certified Battlefield Guide for the Vicksburg National Military Park, he is part of an elite group of area experts. Morgan's passion for local history and his gift for storytelling further enhance his unique skillset.
He has been interpreting the campaign and siege of Vicksburg for history lovers from all over the country and the world since 2007 and conducting historic and themed tours of Vicksburg and the surrounding area since 2010.
He founded and manages Haunted Vicksburg Ghost Tours and Historical Vicksburg Driving and Walking Tours which is one of the most positively reviewed area attractactions.
As Rediscovering Historic Vicksburg's co-founder, he has become an avid blogger. He is also authoring a Restoring Historic Vicksburg series of books.
Morgan regularly participates, plans, and supports various events such as the annual Confederate Ball, "Night at the Museum", Vicksburg Pilgrimage, etc.
